Whether you're interested in advancing your career, working toward a degree, or simply want to enrich your knowledge, Southwestern Michigan Colleges offers a rich array of educational opportunities. With the wide variety of courses offered each semester, students can take courses that will lead them to an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science degree, Associate in Applied Science or Program Certificates. Academic Studies Division

The division of Academic Studies at Southwestern Michigan College is made up of the following departments. Together, these departments offer courses that lead to the Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees which are designed to enable you to transfer into four-year programs at other colleges and universities, as well as Associate in Applied Science degrees that prepare you for immediate entry into the workplace.

Advanced Technologies Division

The Southwestern Michigan College Division of Advanced Technologies offers certificates and two-year associate in applied science degrees in some of the most high-tech, high-demand careers. Many of the division’s programs are located at SMC’s Michigan Technical Education Center (M-TEC) at the Niles Area Campus.

Workforce Education and Business Solutions (WEBS)

Business and industry services include customized workforce skills training and consulting to manufacturing and service industries throughout the Michiana region. Employees can earn college credit that may be applied to several certificates or associate in applied science degrees detailed on the Occupational Programs and Certificates linked on this page.

In addition, SMC offers apprenticeship programs, internship opportunities, as well as training to area businesses and industries through the college’s Workforce Education and Business Solutions (WEBS).

Want to take a ceramics class or computer course only? SMC offers enrichment courses for individuals who aren’t interested in enrolling full time, but who want to enrich their lives by taking a class at SMC.
