College-Level Examination Progarm (CLEP)
SMC is a testing site for CLEP. You do not need to be a student at SMC to take a CLEP test. You can have the scores sent to SMC, to another institution, or you can have them not sent anywhere.
SMC accepts CLEP credit for all 34 CLEP tests. If you are planning to send your scores to another institution, it is important that you contact the school and ask if they except credit for the tests, what course it is for, and what score they consider as passing.
SMC accepts the standard scaled score of 50 on all tests, which is the score recommended by the College Board. See the list of CLEP tests and SMC Equivalents to determine which courses and how many credits you can receive with each test.
All CLEP tests are computer based. There is a CD-ROM with mouse and testing tools tutorials, if you are not familiar with computers. There is a study guide in each Academic Assessment center. This study guide is also available in most public libraries and in most bookstores. A calculator is available on the computer for all tests that allow their use. We will provide scratch paper, all of which must be turned in after the test. There are two separate fees for each test that are due at the time of testing.
