- Scores of 550 paper, 213 computer or 79 iBT, with an essay score of at least 4.5 will place the applicant into the regular academic program. Students may be accepted with scores of 500 paper, 173 computer or 61 iBT, but will need to enroll into the appropriate ESL classes as indicated by SMC's assessment testing. Pleas have original TOEFL scores sent directly to Southwestern Michigan College, code #1783.
- Certified copies of high school documents
- Copies are acceptable if they are certified by the school that graduated the student, by an educational minister or by a U.S. consulate. School records that are not in English require an attached notarized translation.
Financial Document Request
You must submit proof of your ability to financially support yourself in the U.S. by submitting the following, as appropriate:
- Self Sponsored:
- An official bank letter on the bank's letterhead stationary addressed in your name with a minimum balance of $18,000.
- Other Sponsors:
- A notarized Affidavit of Support which includes the following:
- Sponsor's bank letter with a minimum balance of $18,000 (no more than six months old);
and - A letter from the sponsor's employer on company letterhead stationary stating the sponsor's job title, salary, and whether the employment is permanent;
or - Sponsor's tax returns from the previous year only if the sponsor is self-employed.
- Sponsor's bank letter with a minimum balance of $18,000 (no more than six months old);
- A notarized Affidavit of Support which includes the following:

- Documents that have been altered can not be accepted.
- All documents must be translated into English.
- Please submit original documents and a set of copies (your originals will be returned).
