SMC Foundation Overview

Southwestern Michigan College is fortunate to have a foundation working on its behalf. Founded in 1970, the Foundation’s specific purpose is to supplement, broaden, and increase the educational opportunities available to students. Many SMC students are unable to begin or continue their studies without some form of financial assistance.

Furthermore, these funds will enable the college to grant financial recognition to students with outstanding academic ability and unusual talent in such areas as art, music, dance, drama, and journalism.

A Message from the President

Dear Friends,

As a longtime friend of the College, you know that the mission of SMC is to be the college of first choice for students who have a choice, the college that provides the programs and services to meet the needs of students with limited choices, and the college that serves our community.

The State of Michigan is entering the most difficult financial situation in more than a decade. SMC relies on roughly 50 percent of College revenue coming from the State. We need your help in order to continue to provide both excellence and affordability in education.

Your donations help us achieve all of the College’s goals. Your donations help us to provide top quality instructors and facilities for student learning. Your donations help us to provide enhanced academic support services and scholarships for students who desperately need extra help. And your donations help us to provide programs and services that measurably enrich the quality of life in our region.

Please consider making a contribution today to Southwestern Michigan College, your community college.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Mathews, President of Southwestern Michigan College
