Giving to SMC

A Letter from Eileen Toney

Dear Alumni, Parents and Friends,

For over 40 years, Southwestern Michigan College has served as the “community’s college” – providing lifelong learning opportunities to students of all ages and walks of life. Our mission focuses on identifying community needs and providing accessible, quality education and training.

It is the goal of the Southwestern Michigan College Foundation to bridge the gap between the needs and resources of the college. The non-profit, tax-exempt corporation was established in 1973 to provide assistance to Southwestern Michigan College students who desire to enhance their lives through education and training. The Foundation also supports the college in areas that are not supported by taxes, tuition and grants.

We encourage charitable giving by individuals, corporations, foundations and service organizations.

Giving options include:

  • providing scholarships named for a business or individual
  • establishing a memorial in honor or in memory of a friend or loved one
  • donating special machinery to help our student's training
  • creating a planned gift through a will, charitable gift annuity, insurance policy or charitable trust

On behalf of all of us at Southwestern Michigan College who are working to invent, develop and deliver learning solutions for the future, thank you for helping advance the quality of life in southwest Michigan.

Sincerely,

Eileen Toney
Director of Development
Executive Director SMC Foundation

As you carefully plan your charitable giving for this calendar year, perhaps you will consider including Southwestern Michigan College. Your gift can be:

UNRESTRICTED: an important donation because it can be directed by college officials to areas of greatest or most immediate need.

RESTRICTED: a gift directed to a particular area of interest of the donor. These might include the Endowment, Scholarship Funds, SMC Foundation, Green and Gold Club, or the SMC Museum.

Or consider including SMC in your will; a gift of personal property or real estate, charitable trust, insurance policies, or securities.

Upon receipt of your gift to SMC, the college will prepare and send you all of the documentation you will need for your tax records. Gifts of $100 and more are officially recognized at a regular convened SMC Board of Trustees meeting.
