Fitness Center
There’s no better way to stay in shape than to join the SMC Fitness Center, located in the Student Activity Center of the Charles O. Zollar Building on the Dowagiac campus.
The Fitness Center is designed to meet all the needs of an active person. With treadmills, stair climbers and stationary bikes, the cardio-cravers can get their fill. If pumping iron is the goal, the latest CYBEX machines and free weights are ready and waiting.
By joining the Student Activity Center, SMC students and staff, as well as community members can use the Fitness Center amenities. Each member will receive an orientation on how to properly use the various pieces of exercise equipment from qualified fitness staff.
The orientation is also designed to help prevent injuries from misuse of the equipment and to make workouts more effective, while improving confidence during exercise. Fitness Center staff will provide a tour of the facility and answer any of your questions. The orientation takes about 30-45 minutes.
In order to take advantage of SAC, you will need to obtain and complete a registration form. All members will be required to attend an orientation session. These sessions are scheduled at many different times and are designed to teach the benefits of fitness and how to correctly use the equipment. Membership cards will be issued. Any community member 13 years or older is welcome to join. All equipment is safe and friendly. Presently, there is no on site care program for children.
Trails
While at the Fitness Center, pick up a Roadrunner trail map, take a walk or run on more than six miles of groomed, wooded trails. No bikes or motorized vehicles are allowed on trails.
Martial Arts
For Fitness Center members who want a different kind of workout, try toning up by punching a heavy bag, speed bag or freestanding bag. The center also has Blast Master sparring pads, targets and gloves available for checkout.
