Roadrunner Trails

Roadrunner Trails

Southwestern Michigan College's beautiful 240-acre Dowagiac campus has more than six miles of wooded cross country trails for year-round enjoyment. From running and walking to cross country skiing, the trails provide students and staff with the opportunity to combine their indoor fitness workouts with outdoor exercise.

Roadrunner trail maps are available at the Fitness Center or online. Take a walk or run on more than six miles of groomed, wooded trails. No bikes or motorized vehicles are allowed on trails.

Watch for the annual Turkey Trot, a 3K walk (1.9-mile) or 5K run (3.1-mile) through SMC’s trails, which takes place just before Thanksgiving and Steve's Run in July which take advantage of some of these trails.

Trot or Run - It's all fun!

Turkey Trot

SMC students and staff are faced with a challenge each November during the SMC Turkey Trot, held the Monday before Thanksgiving, as to who will have the largest team in the event.

The race takes place on the beautiful and rustic SMC Roadrunner Trails, offering a festival atmosphere with music and a fire pit to warm up by. SMC students and staff can participate free in a 3K walk or run and a 5K run.

The best part is walkers and runners get a free T-shirt and the SMC department with the largest number of participants, including students, will be awarded the coveted Tom Trotter Award.

Steve's Run

Steve's Run

Steve's Run is held each July on the original road and trail course through historic downtown Dowagiac and SMC roadrunner trails. The race is named in memory of Steven Briegel, a SMC honors graduate who lost his fight against cancer in 1990. All funds raised, including 100 percent of the pledge monies, are donated to SMC's Steven Briegel Scholarship Fund and the Mayo Clinic Cancer Research Fund.
