Laptop Loaner Program

The goal of the laptop loaner program is to assist SMC EXCEL students in reaching their educational and career goals by providing laptop computers on short term loan as a tool to aid in the successful completion of class assignments and projects.

Available equipment and software for loan

• 12 Dell Laptop Computers
  • 9 at Dowagiac campus and 3 at the Niles Area Campus
• Equipped with carrying case, power cord, and floppy disk drive
• Software
  • Hawkes for Math 101
  • Microsoft Office
  • Premier Tech Toolbox, Read aloud software
• Wi-Fi Internet capability
• Students must save documents to 3.5" floppy disk or travel drive

Checkout process

• Length of checkout
  • One week
  • Must be turned in by 1:00 pm on due date
• Conditions of loan
  • Current EXCEL student
  • Read & sign loan contract
  • Return on due date
  • Return in good condition/same condition when loaned

Consequences of failure to follow conditions of loan contract

• Loss of privilege to participate in laptop loan program for remainder of semester
• Students must pay for damages to a laptop caused by negligence or misuse

Wait List

• Used when all computers are checked out
• Student signs wait list and is given date when next computer will be available
• Computer will be held for one day
• If a student on the wait list fails to pick up the computer it will go to the next person on the wait list. If no names are on the wait list the computer will go out to the next person who requests one.
