Visual Arts - Ceramics
Students may pursue a variety of three-dimensional art in the ceramics studio. Students learn to hand-build, create sculptures and throw on the wheel. SMC offers a wide variety of firings from pit-fire, raku, low fire, high fire reduction and oxidation.
Students are given the opportunity to create their own glazes, participate in art shows, and prepare for a career in the arts.

Sherrie Styx is a three-dimensional artist specializing in the mediums of ceramics, glass art and metalsmithing. She is an alumna of Southwestern Michigan College and received her bachelor’s in Fine Arts degree from Western Michigan University with emphasis in ceramics and art education. Her Masters in Art is in Teacher Leadership from the University of Illinois. She actively exhibits her art at local and regional shows. She is a guest speaker and clinitician encouraging art for personal holistic validation. Her studio is at the Box Factory for the Arts in St. Joseph.
