SMC Scholarships
Southwestern Michigan College offers a variety of scholarships for graduating high school students who show talent in academics, fine and performing arts, and sports leadership.
Scholarships are also available for current SMC students based on criteria such as major, class standing, graduating high school, and city or county of residence. More than 250 students each year are awarded SMC scholarships.
How to Apply for Financial Aid
Application for Admissions
You must apply to the college to be considered for enrollment.
Application can be filled out online at www.swmich.edu/applynow.
Federal Financial Aid
Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA).
Apply at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
On the FAFSA make sure to mark SMC's Federal School Code: 002317.
Scholarships
Fill out the scholarship application, making sure you check the agreement box at the bottom of the application. Otherwise, you will not be able to submit the application online.
Transcripts & Test Scores
Request official transcripts or GED verification in writing from high school and/or previous colleges as well as any testing scores that apply. To be considered for any scholarships, the SMC Office of Financial Aid must have your official transcripts on file.
Official transcripts can be sent to SMC Scholarships on the Dowagiac campus.

Other forms of funding for college
Private Scholarships:
Funding from individuals, groups, and organizations outside the college that support education. Go to swmich.edu/financialaid/private.php to find a list of private scholarships offered.
Student Worker Employment Opportunities:
Money earned by the student who is employed by SMC as a work study while attending college.
Payment Plan (FACTS):
Contact the Business office at 800-456-8675, ext. 1298 for details on a monthly payment plan.
Self-Funded:
Estimated amount needed/available.

Please select the scholarship(s) for which you are applying (check all that apply). Note that each scholarship has a requirement section and a description.
Deadline for priority consideration is December 9, 2011. Priority consideration will be given to eligible applicants that apply before the deadline, except for the Honors Awards. Late consideration will be given after the original deadline until February 10, 2012.
