Steve's Run - Race Information
Starting Times
10K Run / 5K Run / 5K Walk
The 10K Run, 5K Run and 5K walk all start simultaneously at 9 a.m. EDT (Michigan). The start is constructed according to ability. Please cooperate and move to your appropriate time section in order to insure a safe, efficient start. The first two rows are reserved for seeded runners. Staging for race walkers is at the 8 a.m. pace sign. Walkers - Please no running. Awards are given and, therefore, inspectors will report violators.
Fun Run (1K)
The Dogpatch Derby 1K fun run begins at 9:03 a.m. EDT. All runners will be escorted by a pace car from the start (same and 10K and 5K) to the finish in Lions Park (same as 10K and 5K). Ribbons are given to all finishers. There are no results recorded but the time is on the large race clock at the finish.
Race Schedule
- Registration
Participants may register in a variety of ways prior to the race and all the way through 8:30 am the morning of the race at the historic Dowagiac Train Depot. See the section on this site pertaining to Registration for complete details. - Registration Packets
Registration packets may be picked up Friday night between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. (Michigan time) or on the morning of the race between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. at the historic Dowagiac train depot.- Timing Chips
This year we are using Champion Chip timing service. Prior to the start of the race attach computer-timing chip to your shoelace as directed. - Race Tag
Pin your race tag securely on front. Your tag must be visible at the 5K- and 10K-split and at the finish. Safety pins are available in the registration area. - Switching Races
If you wish to switch races, go to the “Change of Race” table inside the depot prior to the end of the registration period on race day. Do not switch races during the race!

See the Starting Times section of this page for specific details on race start times. All races begin on the North end of South Front Street in Dowagiac, Michigan. - Turn in Timing Chips
Upon finishing, each participant should move quickly through the chute and surrender their tear tag on their number and deposit their timing chip in the bucket. Each participate will also receive a coded tongue depressor which will allow them to pick up their T-shirt at the T-shirt area. You will be billed $30 if you fail to return your timing chip at the end of the race. - T-Shirt Pickup
It has been a long standing tradition to award finishers their shirts after the race. Each finisher will be given a color-coded stick once their Champion Chip is returned. Take this stick across the bridge at the Lions Park to the T-shirt pickup and receive your shirt. Pre-registered participants will have their shirts reserved in packets. Computerized results are posted on a bulletin board in the park by 10:15 a.m. Results are also available on the Steve’s Run Web site after the race. - Cancer Survivors
Prior to the start of the awards ceremony, we plan to recognize all cancer survivors who competed. We hope all survivors will be available for this salute. - Awards Ceremony
The awards are presented in Lions Park at 10:45 a.m. Runners must be present to pick up awards. No awards are given to friends. Drawing prizes are given away in the park from 10:15-10:45 a.m. - Visit the SMC Web Site

First Aid
There are four Aid Stations which are marked on Course Map which is available online. Complete medical aid is also available.
Splits
Times are given at the 1- 2- 3- 4- and 5-mile marks in the 10K and 1- and 2-mile marks in the 5K run and walk. Your finish time will be clearly visible on the race clock mounted over the finish line. Also, all mile and kilo marks are clearly posted on the course.
Hot Weather Warning
Traditionally this has been a hot weather race. Pace yourself and enjoy the course. Several sprinklers and hoses are set up on the race course to provide relief.
