Steve's Run - Pledges
Participants may raise additional funds by securing sponsor pledges for their participation in Steve’s Run. SMC students will be able to participate in Steve’s Run free if they can raise $50 in pledge money from friends and supporters.
Charlie Leonard, 10 year old son of Brian Leonard, Dean of Academic Development and Assessment at Southwestern Michigan, shown crossing the finish line together, raised over $100 in pledges for the 2007 race. When asked why he did it, Charlie replied:
"I helped pass out T-shirts last year and really had fun working with my dad and Dr. Young giving the runners their T-shirts. That is when I learned that the race was to help raise money to help find a cure for cancer. This year I told my dad that I wanted to raise money and run in the race to help find a cure. My dad doesn't like to run but he told me that if I raised $100.00 he would run with me instead of helping pass out T-shirts. So, I went and told everyone that lives near me about the Steve's Run and they gave me money so I could run in the race. It was a lot of fun. Next year we are going to run the race again."
