Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3)
Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3) program, offered at Southwestern Michigan College, is a global training and certification program designed to validate an individual’s basic computer skills and internet knowledge providing proof to the world that you are:
- Equipped with the needed computer skills to excel in a digital world.
- Capable of using a broad range of computer technology from basic hardware and software to operating systems, applications and the Internet.
- Ready for the work employers, college and universities want to throw your way.
- Positioned to advance your career through additional computer certifications such as CompTIA’s A+, and other desktop application exams.
Developed and managed by Certiport, the IC3 program enjoys worldwide recognition as the global standard for digital literacy.
IC3...Why do you need it?
Some students are great at word processing, but lose their files because they don’t understand basic file management. Others confidently surf the web, but have no idea what “networks” are, or how they work. Employers, colleges and universities realize that exposure to computers does not equal an understanding of computers. So now, more than ever, basic computer and Internet skills are being considered prerequisites for employment and higher education.
What makes IC3 unique?
The IC3 exams use the latest testing technologies to integrate both performance-based and knowledge-based questions into certification exams. This technology provides the fairest, most accurate testing experience possible.
Once an individual has successfully achieved their IC3 certification, they are well prepared for career advancement through additional computer certifications. They readily move on to achieve desktop application, specific certifications as well as more advanced technical certifications such as CompTIA's TM A+.
Developed through a collaborative effort that included over 270 subject-matter experts in 19 countries, the IC3 program combined standards from numerous disciplines, including: government organizations, computer industry associations, training providers, workforce services, corporations, and academia. This standard will continue to remain current through annual reviews by industry experts.
Certiport offers global certification programs through secure and reliable test delivery systems established in thousands of authorized testing centers around the world. Each certification program is also supported by centralized candidate services that ensure consistency of certification results and candidate validation.
