College is Your Student's Job

College is like a job, and being a full-time student is equivalent to having a full-time job. Like beginning a new job, there are details about this new life and place that students learn as they go and expectations that require personal accountability and personal responsibility.

Parents don’t typically get involved in their children’s workplace (by calling their boss, checking up on their work habits). Likewise, it is understood that when students begin college, they are given a number of personal responsibilities that parents may not be involved in.

You can increase your involvement, however, by knowing as much as you can about your student’s college requirements, and supporting your student in making good choices.
