The Fred L. Mathews Library and Conference Center at Southwestern Michigan College is a fully-automated facility with access through the Online Library Catalog, providing various resources to support the research needs of SMC’s students and faculty.

In addition, the library participates in the MichiCard program which allows patrons of other participating libraries to check out materials. An SMC Library Card is available free of charge to all SMC students and staff, as well as any resident of the College’s District which includes all of Cass County and Keeler and Hamilton townships in Van Buren County.

Library has extensive collections and services including:

  • 37,000 books
  • 1,000 periodicals
  • Video tapes, DVDs and CDs for all research needs
  • 12 local and national newspapers
  • New York Times Historical Newspapers database (1851 to 2004)
  • Federal government document depository
  • 1,000 books and other materials on the American Civil War
  • Access to resource material for nursing, business and education students
  • Ask a Librarian online service for students and faculty
  • Group and individual study areas

The library isn’t just about research books! Students will find fiction and non-fiction books, as well as books on tape and CD, equipment for student use, a magnification machine, WiFi access, and the latest music titles.

Library Hours

Monday- Thursday 7:30 a.m.- 4 p.m.
Friday 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Please Note: When classes are not in session, there will be no Saturday hours.
