MTEC - Facilities Overview

Southwestern Michigan College has numerous state-of-the-art facilities which can be rented by business and industry.

MTEC’s 6,200-square-foot simulated factory is divided into the East and West Factory Cells with an emphasis on die-casting, as well as manufacturing technologies in welding, machining, and precision measurement and gauging.

The East Factory features a Prince Cold Chamber Aluminum Die Cast Cell and an IDRA Hot Chamber Zinc Die Cast Cell.

Executive Conference / Training Rooms
MTEC has several training rooms as well as an Executive Conference room – all designed with flexible seating for large or small groups. Each of the rooms is equipped with the latest technology for video conferencing capabilities, as well as offering “Smartboard” and multimedia presentation capacity and Internet access.

Die Casting Training Cell
MTEC has a strong commitment to the die casting industry and our entire East Factory is dedicated to die casting. The cell includes equipment for hot chamber zinc and cold chamber aluminum die casting. Because die casting is our largest training cell, the facility serves as a satellite training site for the North American Die Casting Association (NADCA), as well as ABB Industrial Automation and Rimrock Corporation.

Machining Training Cell
The Machining Training Cell offers your machining, tool and die industry technician hands-on experience in our completely flexible environment. The West Factory area is dedicated to machining and welding and has a capacity of 12 to 36 people depending on the configuration. When feasible, we also encourage firms to bring their own machines into this cell to simulate exact conditions of their machining operations. Large overhead doors and heavy-duty overhead cranes can accommodate the rigging of the machines and tools desired.

Welding Support Cell
The Welding Support Cell is located in the West Factory area and offers your company customized training in welding technologies in a manufacturing environment dedicated to this essential process. Much like the flexibility of our machining module, workers can learn welding skills with the equipment, materials, and processes to perfectly simulate your industrial workplace and needs. The welding training includes MIG Welding, TIG Welding and Robotic Welding Process Technology.

Quality Lab
The Quality Lab is capable of training your workforce away from interruptions and distractions of your plant (without taking your equipment out of production) with a full spectrum of flexible training services and technologies.

Manufacturing Support Equipment
In addition, the East and West Factory Cells have traditional Manufacturing Support Equipment available for material handling and training.

Computer Labs
A Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CAD), Precision Production Technology (PPT) and Electronics Labs are also available which contain specialized software used for training. Follow the links on this page additional information on the hardware and software installed in these labs.
