Precision Production Technology

Precision Production Technology

The Precision Production Technology (PPT) program at Southwestern Michigan College offers the latest manufacturing training for the 21st century. A career in PPT means working with state-of-the-art CNC equipment to design and produce the products of the future.

Most jobs in the manufacturing industry will require training after high school, technical skills and experience. The PPT program can get you started in tomorrow’s manufacturing technology today. Students can earn a PPT – Basic Skills Endorsement Certificate and be ready for hire by area industry as an entry level trained machinist.

By enrolling in entry level PPT classes, students will learn about machines, tooling, materials, measurements and programming. The average annual income for someone with entry level skills can expect to earn $24,960.

Students entering this field of study can begin with entry level classes and progress to a one-year certificate and a two-year associate degree through the college’s Division of Advanced Technologies.

Those individuals earning a one-year certificate will have skills necessary for precision programming and blueprint reading so they can do their own machine set up. A student who has two years of manufacturing work experience and an associate degree in PPT can expect to make an average of $33,280 annually.

Another advantage of the SMC Precision Production Technology program is the ability to earn a four-year degree in business administration at SMC through Ferris State University.
