Transferring to SMC

Southwestern Michigan College awards transfer credit for comparable college coursework that has been completed at an SMC accepted accredited college elsewhere with a minimum grade of C and for some current licenses or certifications such as nursing and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT).

To transfer credits to Southwestern Michigan College, you must complete the following steps:

1. Apply to the College and indicate on the application that you are seeking a credential (degree or certificate) from SMC, specifying which credential;
2. Request from all schools you have attended and would like to have credits transferred that your official transcripts be sent to SMC. Alternatively, you may deliver an official transcript directly to the College but only if the seal on the envelope holding the transcript has not been broken.
3. You must allow at least 45 days from the day the transcripts arrive at the College for your credits to be evaluated. You will be sent a letter from the Records and Registration office informing you of how your credits transferred to SMC.
