Transferring to SMC

Southwestern Michigan College awards transfer credit for comparable college coursework that has been completed elsewhere with a minimum grade of C and for some current licenses such as nursing and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT).

To transfer credits to Southwestern Michigan College, you must complete the following steps:

1. You must have an application on file and you must be in a degree-seeking curriculum.
2. Request your official transcripts be sent to SMC from all schools you would like to transfer credits. To be official, transcripts must be mailed directly from the school to SMC or they may be hand-delivered if the seal on the envelope is not broken.
3. Once transcripts arrive at SMC, they are sent to the appropriate Dean/Director for evaluation. Please allow up to 30 days for this process.
4. You will be sent a letter informing you of how your credits transferred.
