General Information
Veteran Benefits

Veterans attending Southwestern Michigan College who are eligible for VA benefits must meet with the Veterans Advisor prior to their first semester enrollment. When you meet with the Veterans Advisor you will need to have completed the following:

  • An application for Admission to SMC as a Degree Seeking Student.

You will need to bring with you:

  • A printed copy of your Application for Benefits from the VA Web site.
  • A copy of your DD 214 or NOBE (if applicable).
  • A copy of any Military Transcripts of courses taken by you for evaluation by SMC in order to grant you credit.

It is your responsibility to notify the Certifying Officer in the Records and Registration Office when you register for any subsequent terms so your VA benefits can be continued.

Veteran students who are transferring to SMC from another institution where they have used their VA benefits must complete VA Form 22-1995, Request for Change of Program or Place of Training.

You can complete this form at http://www.gibill.va.gov and bring a copy of the form with you or you may pick one up from the Veterans Advisor in the SMC Academic Support Office on the Dowagiac campus. You should also bring with you:

  • A copy of your DD 214 or NOBE (if applicable).
  • A copy of any Military Transcripts of courses taken by you for evaluation by SMC in order to grant you credit.

If you have any further questions prior to meeting with the veterans advisor, you can call Sarah Wilkins Zovich (269) 782-1348 or email szovich@swmich.edu.
