Student Activity Center

3D Perspective of Renovations to Student Activity Center

The Southwestern Michigan College Student Activity Center (SAC) is the vibrant, recreational hub of the Dowagiac campus. And by Fall 2009, the SAC will be bigger and offer more cool activities for student and staff. Featured in the expanded SAC will be a rock-climbing wall, endless pools, a snack bar and a larger student lounge, a theatre with live music, pool tables, game room, and outdoor patio.

Located in the Charles O. Zollar Building, the SAC has a variety of intramural sports and recreational opportunities, as well as offering a fitness and wellness center to SMC students, faculty and staff and community members.

Student Activity Center Floorplan

Southwestern Michigan College is planning to enhance that experience by offering on-campus living experience and an expanded Student Activity Center by Fall 2009, making SMC more than a typical two-year college.

Inside SAC, students will find the Student Lounge, an area with a kickback atmosphere for watching movies on the 50-inch Plasma television. The TV provides cable access channels for viewers as well as a DVD player. Students may recommend movies for viewing, but all movies must have little or no inappropriate language or violence, and no indecent exposure. In addition, the following features will be added when the facility is renovated in Fall of 2009:

  • Rock-climbing wall
  • Fitness Center
  • Gymnasium
  • Racquetball Courts
  • Fitness Class Studios
  • Endless Pools
  • Snack Bar/Student Lounge
  • Theatre
  • Intramural Office
  • Game Room
  • Locker Rooms
  • Outdoor Patio
  • Running/Hiking Trails

In addition, students can sit down for a hand of cards or a challenging board game like Monopoly, Pictionary, Scrabble, I Spy, or Yahtzee. If students want something more supercharged, there is Ping Pong, Air Hockey, Arcade games, and a PlayStation 3 with two controllers, one is wireless.

PlayStation games that are available include NBA ’07, Sonic the Hedgehog, Tiger Woods PGA Tour ’07, Tony Hawk’s Project 8, Madden ’08 and NCAA ’08.

The annual SAC Ping Pong Tournament is open to students, staff and faculty. Arcade Legends offers more than 60 classic arcade games which require no quarters to play, only a SAC membership.

The SAC also has two racquetball courts, and basketball in the gymnasium, and Cross Country Skiing on a 1.3-mile course that is rated easy to moderate, as well as all equipment needed.
