Student Activity Center Overview

The Southwestern Michigan College Student Activity Center (SAC) is the vibrant, recreational hub of the Dowagiac campus. Located in the Charles O. Zollar Building, the SAC has doubled in size, offering bigger and cooler activities for students and staff. And the best part of all for students is there are no fees to use the facilities at the Student Activity Center as long as you have a current SMC Student ID.

Featured in the expanded SAC is a rock-climbing room, three resistance pools, a gourmet coffee and snack bar with a larger student lounge, an 80-seat theatre where movies and live performances will be shown on a theater-size screen, pool tables, larger game room and an outdoor patio. The entire SAC is wireless for maximum use by students who want to lounge with their coffee and computer.

The facility also includes two multi-purpose rooms, where students and SMC staff will have the opportunity to participate in a number of physical activities. These rooms will be used for group activities, such as aerobics or yoga classes, and other sessions. The classrooms have special floors, allowing for activities such as dance routines and dance clinics.

Students will find a much larger and expanded Intramural Sports program, as well as a newly renovated and updated Fitness Center with classrooms for dance, yoga, and other wellness activities. There are larger locker rooms with shower facilities adjacent to the Fitness Center. Offices for the Intramural Sports program, SAC activities, and campus activities are also located in the Student Activity Center.

Community Memberships

By joining the Student Activity Center, community members can use all the amenities at SMC's Student Activity Center.

The Student Activity Center will be closing at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25. In addition, the SAC will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Amenities

Wow! You won't believe all the cool things going on in the Student Activity Center. Make sure you have your Student ID Card or you won't be able to join in all the fun.

Event Theatre	Fitness Center

An 80-seat event theatre will feature movies and live performances on a theater-size screen.	The Fitness Center includes cardio equipment, a free weights area with urethane coated dumbbells, Cybex™ selectorized equipment, a Life Fitness cable motion multi-jungle and a Life Fitness cable motion dual adjustable pulley just to name a few..
Game Room	Gymnasium - Racquetball/Handball Courts

In the game room, students can sit down for a hand of cards or a challenging board game like Monopoly, Pictionary, Scrabble, I Spy, or Yahtzee. If students want something more supercharged, there are pool and ping pong tables, air hockey, arcade games, and PlayStation® 3, X-Box® 360 and Wii™ game consoles and games.	SAC has the gymnasium for basketball and volleyball, and racquetball and handball courts are available. Resistance Pools	Rock-Climbing Room

The SAC features three endless pools, perfect for aquatic exercise, which can be set at different levels of resistance to achieve your personal fitness goals.	It doesn't get better than this! All you will need in the Canyon, the rock climbing room located in the SAC, is an imagination that puts you in the Zion National Park and plenty of rock climbing skills to have loads of fun. The focal point of the Canyon is the 28-foot by 53-foot mural of Zion Canyon printed from an original oil painting by SMC's art instructor, David Baker and a 35-foot scaling wall.
Student Lounge/Coffee-Snack Bar	Roadrunner Trails

Inside the SAC, students will find the Student Lounge, an area with a kickback atmosphere for watching movies on the 50-inch Plasma television or enjoying a fire in the fireplace. The TV provides cable access channels for viewers as well as a DVD player. The Student Lounge also includes a gourmet coffee-snack bar which features sandwiches, wraps and smoothies.	Extensive "Roadrunner Trails" criss-cross the Dowagiac campus property. Roadrunner trail maps are available at the Fitness Center or online. Take a walk or run on more than six miles of groomed, wooded trails.
