Special Populations Overview

Southwestern Michigan College recognizes that some circumstances can make college more challenging for students. The Special Populations offices at the Dowagiac campus and the Niles Area Campus provide support for students in approved occupational programs who need additional financial support to be successful.

Special Populations also supports students with documented disabilities. If you have a disability, you may benefit from services such as tutoring, testing accommodations, adaptive equipment, assistive technology, advocacy, problem resolution and referrals to community agencies.

To receive these services students should contact a Special Populations advisor, schedule an appointment and provide current documentation of need or disability.

These services are provided through financial support from the Carl D. Perkins Grant and Southwestern Michigan College under the direction of Dr. Margaret Hay, Dean of Students and Academic Support.
