Educational Development
An Education Development Plan (EDP) provides a systematic approach for students entering college to identify their goals and confirm they have accomplished them in a meaningful way.
The Carl D. Perkins Grant supports the development of an EDP to integrate the student’s education and employment goals with the services needed to help them achieve these goals successfully.
At Southwestern Michigan College the EDP/Special Populations Student Application is consolidated into one document to create a complete academic plan.
- The EDP includes optional choices for the following services:
- Personal Advising
- Academic Advising
- Support Services/Accommodations
- Tuition Assistance
- Employability
- Career Advising
- Career Goals
- The EDP provides data to report progress toward core indicators set by the state of Michigan.
- The EDP includes assessment and determination of eligibility for services and appropriate accommodations. For students with a disability it allows for an effective transition from a high school IEP.
This application should be completed once each term for Special Populations students requesting tuition assistance and services and at least once each year for students with disabilities requesting accommodations and services.
