Annual Turkey Trot

Michiana's oldest race, the Southwestern Michigan College Turkey Trot is held annually the Monday before Thanksgiving. The race was founded by the Sports Education Department at Southwestern Michigan College in 1967 and is conducted primarily for the intrinsic rewards found on the Roadrunner Trails. The event is open to the community as well as students and staff of SMC.
The 5K (3.1 Mile) and 3K (1.9 Mile) Races are conducted on the original beautiful and rustic trails of Southwestern Michigan College's Dowagiac campus. The trails are a genuine cross country course and during the fall they have a festive atmosphere reminiscent of our country's earliest Thanksgiving. The 3K and 5K courses are flat to rolling. Each year the race is conducted in conjunction with the SMC student/staff race.
