A student sitting with an advisor

Guest Students

A guest student is a student who wants to take a class or two while away from their home college and then transfer those credits back to their home school.

Become a guest student in four easy steps.

Note: High school students should follow the procedures for Early College.

Step 1
Fill out the free application
  Under “Major” check “Guest Student”.
Step 2
Send your transcripts to SMC

Unofficial transcripts will work.

Mail transcripts to:
Southwestern Michigan College
Attn: Admissions
58900 Cherry Grove Road
Dowagiac, MI 49047

Step 3
Speak with an advisor

Speak with an advisor in the Office of First Year Experience to make sure you’ve taken all the pre-requisites for the classes you wish to take. Call 269-782-1499.

Step 4
Register for classes

Log in to SMC Wired (smcwired.swmich.edu), click the “My SMC Wired” tab, then SMC Self Service > Student > Registration > Register for Classes.

SMC does not require the Michigan Uniform Guest Student Application, but your home school might. Speak with your home school advisor to find out if you need it.
