Fall Choir and Band Concerts
October 21, 2021 - October 22, 2021
Theatre in the Dale A. Lyons Building
SMC has two musical concerts planned in October to enjoy. The Fall Choir Concert on October 21 and the Fall Band Concert on October 22. Support SMC and the performing arts by attending either of these events.
Fall Choir Concert
October 21 | 7:30 p.m.
SMC choirs in collaboration with the Andrew Fisher Quartet along with choirs from St. Joseph High School and Coloma High School will present a full performance of the Robert Ray Gospel Mass. Composed over 30 years ago, the Gospel Mass was an experimental work at the time combining elements of traditional liturgical church music with Gospel texts and rhythms now established as one of the seminal works of African-American choral music performed by both community and church choirs all over the world.
Fall Band Concert
October 22 | 7 p.m.
The SMC Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Jazz Combo present an evening of traditional and contemporary music. Selections are to include music from Clifford Brown, Chuck Mangione, Larry Daehn, and Samuel Hazo, as well as a collaborative performance of “Here’s to Thee,” the SMC alma mater, with the Concert Choir. Featured faculty artist at the fall concert will be SMC Applied Trumpet Instructor, Mr. Danny Lopez.
All performances are free, though donations to benefit visual and performing arts student groups are appreciated. Performances take place in the theatre in the Dale A. Lyons Building on SMC’s Dowagiac Campus.
