Southwestern Michigan College, as a service to the community, will allow appropriate groups and area businesses and industries to use college facilities.
Groups or organizations who wish to reserve SMC facilities must complete the SMC Preliminary Community Facility Event Request Form linked on the right. We recommend that you start this process at least three months prior to your event.
After processing your request, you will receive an email confirming the arrangements for your event which will include any details on the fees and charges that will be associated with your event.
Acceptable Use of College Facilities
Reservations are accepted from recognized community groups and organizations with local officers. Unfortunately, reservations will not be accepted for private parties such as wedding showers, weddings, wedding receptions or graduation parties.
Specialty facilities such as the gymnasium, laboratories (including computer labs) generally will not be considered available for use by outside groups. Other facilities, including campus grounds, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Use of our facilities is subject to terms and conditions of Southwestern Michigan College's Use of Facilities Policy. Any damages to equipment or facilities will be the responsibility of the organization in charge. Reimbursement will be required in the amount of repair or replacement.
Fees and Expenses
Normally a fee will be charged to cover any additional expenses to the college arising from the use of the facility.
Southwestern Michigan College reserves the right to make the determination of whether additional staff, custodial or security personnel services are required for your event. You will be notified in advance of the hourly rates that apply to your use of our facilities. These additional fees for staff, custodial or security support services may be invoiced after the scheduled event.
Food and Beverages
Southwestern Michigan College does allow individuals using our facilities to bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages. If you would like assistance with food for your event, please contact the SMC Birdfeeder at 269-782-1324 to make your own arrangements separate from this request.
SMC does not have table linens available for use in our facilities.
As a general policy, no alcoholic beverages are permitted at community events held on the campus of Southwestern Michigan College.
Southwestern Michigan College requires that any organization who uses our facilities have liability insurance in effect during the time frame of this event. SMC must receive proof of this insurance coverage prior to your event.
