Southwestern Michigan College offers a General Industry 10-Hour+ three day seminar.
This is a required class for General Industry Level One MTI Certificate.

Who Should Attend
This seminar is a must for anyone concerned about health and safety on the job including:

  • Managers concerned about workers’ compensation costs.
  • Employees who want to learn proper techniques for protecting their safety and health at work.
  • Business owners who want to learn about compliance with Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA).

What You'll Learn
In today's challenging business climate, many employers are faced with the need to have their employers be capable of performing new or multiple job functions. As personnel shift to accommodate business needs, it is essential to have staff understand the importance of safety and health management and the underlying effect it has on business. In three days this fundamentals course offers the resources and tools to create or enhance an effective safety and health management system, a review of the MIOSHA Act, and highlights of many key General Industry Safety and Health Standards.

Topics include elements of a comprehensive safety and health system, recordkeeping, accident investigations, inspections and citations, written program requirements, introduction to industrial hygiene, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, bloodborne infectious diseases (BIDs), eyewash and first aid requirements, ergonomics, hazard recognition, and machine guarding.

MIOSHA Training Institute Scholarship Program
MIOSHA Training Institute Scholarships cover 50% of the regular course fee. Interested individuals should complete the MIOSHA Training Institute (MTI) Scholarship Application online. You must also select a course that is more than 3 weeks away from the start date of a selected course, but not more than 3 months away from the start date. After notification of scholarship approval from the MIOSHA Consultation Education and Training (CET) Division, applicants must register for this course within five business days. Applicants must receive approval of their scholarship before registering for this course. If applicant fails to register within five days the approval for the scholarship will be rescinded and applicant will need to reapply.

Course Cancellation Due to Low Enrollment: SMC reserves the right to cancel this course because of low enrollment. A 100% refund will be made to enrollees of all the fees attributable to the cancelled class.
Deadline to Drop: Any cancellations by enrollees made prior to Monday, July 30, 2018 at 5 p.m. will result in a full refund of monies paid. No refund will be given for cancellations received after the deadline to drop stated above.
