SMC Criminal Justice wins seven trophies in Minnesota

SMC won the Best Spirit trophy

Southwestern Michigan College criminal justice students brought back seven trophies from their first American Criminal Justice Association-Lambda Alpha Epsilon Region 6 conference Oct. 17-19 at Inver Hills Community College in Inver Grove Heights, Minn.

Region 6 encompasses Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and Iowa.

SMC CSI team captured first place

The CSI team of Lindsey Laden of Edwardsburg, Kathryn Wertz of Goshen and Racquel “Rocky” Zendejas of Elkhart won first place; Nick Jelsomeno of Bloomingdale won first place in Corrections; Mallory Majerek of Niles won second place in Police Administration; Kathryn Wertz won third place in Corrections; and Program Director Don Ricker finished first in Juvenile Justice and second in Corrections in the professional competition.

“We also won the overall Best Spirit Award for having the best attitude and good sportsmanship of all of the teams,” Ricker said of the largest trophy.
