Heather Zile awarded five-year service pin

Southwestern Michigan College Board of Trustees Chairman Thomas F. Jerdon presented a five-year service pin to Director of Community Outreach Heather Zile at the Aug. 19 meeting on the Dowagiac campus.
Zile, of Edwardsburg, started at SMC as Early Childhood Education program director and fulltime faculty member.
She was instrumental in bringing one of the state’s few Head Start centers on a college campus to serve as a learning laboratory.
An SMC graduate, she continued to a bachelor’s degree in psychology and child development from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree in early childhood education.
She worked with mentally ill youth in southwest Michigan, with orphaned and underprivileged families in Monterrey, Mexico, and as Early Childhood director/administrator at Lewis Cass Intermediate School District.
