At this year’s World Championship of Magic in Busan, South Korea, MacDonald cracked the top 10. He also successfully stumped Penn and Teller on their television show, “Fool Us,” with a cash-cloning mirror illusion.
The world championships are like the Olympics of magic with 47 countries competing.
SMC expanding IUSB business pathways
In September 2017, IUSB and SMC unveiled an agreement to help nursing students chart a smooth route from an associate-level Registered Nurse to a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing.
1st Source Bank donates $100,000 to Southwestern Michigan College
The building of this new facility for the SMC nursing program is in response to the nursing “shortage” the U.S. is facing. SMC hopes to admit and train many more nursing students than it has historically during the 50+ years of the program, and to do it with cutting edge simulation technology allowing students to experience a variety of real-life medical situations to which they would not otherwise be exposed.
SMC celebrates long-term employees
Trustee Todd Obren presented Brent Brewer of Dowagiac with his 10-year service pin. Brewer is currently Associate Vice President of the Niles Campus and in October begins transitioning into Chief of Staff in anticipation of Tom Atkinson’s retirement.

SMC Art Gallery spotlights collection curation
One set of images on one wall “are literally the 3D design classes’ trash, though so many people have come in and said these over-sprays from spray-painting parts and pieces are awesome,” said student gallery assistant Faith White of Niles. “It’s all about the context of being in the gallery and how they’re displayed.”
