Two Southwestern Michigan College bands present their spring concert Friday night.
The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. March 28 in the theatre of the Dale A. Lyons Building on the Dowagiac campus.
Admission is free, but good-will donations that benefit the Visual and Performing Arts Department are accepted.
SMC Symphonic Band selections include the Karl King march "Emblem of Freedom,” "Sleep, My Child" by Eric Whitacre, "Variations on a Korean Folksong" by John Barnes Chance and "La Vergen de la Macarena" as performed by the world-famous Canadian Brass quintet.
SMC Brass Band performs the Salvation Army march "The Invincible Army" by Erik Leidzen, "Dunlap's Creek" by Robert Bernat, written in the style of Aaron Copland, and "Suite for Brass" by John Rutter.
Both of Director Dr. Jon Korzun’s bands combine forces to perform "Mars — The Bringer of War" by Gustav Holst from his suite "The Planets" and "Galop" from "Dance of the Hours" by Amilcare Ponchielli.
Also performing will be the SMC Flute Choir directed by Christina Gibson.
