Academic Scholarship Information

Graduating high school students are automatically considered for academic scholarships after submitting an application for admission as well as official high school transcripts and ACT or SAT scores. The student will be notified by mail if awarded a scholarship. Awards may be reduced if the student receives other restricted or tuition-specific aid.

Academic Scholarships
Presidential Scholarship
  • Covers up to a maximum of $2,500 per semester toward tuition, fees, housing or other educational expenses up to $10,000 over four consecutive semesters.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours.
  • Requires a minimum grade point average of 3.85 (may be calculated as early as end of junior year of high school) and a minimum ACT score of 24 or SAT score of 1090.
  • Renewable for students who complete their first year with a GPA of 3.25 or higher.
Award of Distinction
  • Covers up to a maximum of $1,750 per semester toward tuition, fees, housing, or other educational expenses up to $7,000 over four consecutive semesters.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours.
  • Requires a minimum grade point average of 3.65 (may be calculated as early as end of junior year of high school) and a minimum ACT score of 22 or SAT score of 1020.
  • Renewable for students who complete their first year with a GPA of 3.25 or higher.
Award of Excellence
  • Covers up to a maximum of $1,000 toward tuition, fees, housing, or other educational expenses up to $4,000 over four consecutive semesters.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours.
  • Requires a minimum grade point average of 3.25 (may be calculated as early as end of junior year of high school) and a minimum ACT score of 20 or SAT score of 940.
  • Renewable for students who complete two semesters of enrollment their first year with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Roadrunner Scholarship
  • Covers $1000 ($500 per semester) toward applicable tuition, fees, books, SMC housing charges, or other educational expenses
  • In order to receive this scholarship, students must be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours.
  • Requires a minimum high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (may be calculated at the end of junior year) and a minimum ACT score of 18 or SAT of 860
  • Renewable for students who complete two semesters of enrollment their first year with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Maintaining Eligibility
  • Students will lose their scholarship immediately if:

    They engage in inappropriate activities or conduct as defined by SMC’s Student Handbook, Student Code of Conduct.

  • Students will lose their right to renew their scholarship the following year if:

    They fail to complete two semesters of enrollment by the beginning of their second Fall Semester with the required cumulative GPA (3.25 for the Presidential Scholarship and the Award of Distinction and 3.0 for the Award of Excellence)

Exceptions to the above policies will only be made as a result of unusual circumstances beyond the student’s control (i.e. major illness or accident) and must be requested in writing.
