A construction trades classroom.
SMC students in the construction trades program are building a "small house". At only 504 square feet, it includes a living room, dining area, kitchen, bedroom an bathroom with a stacked washer and dryer. Welding fabricated a tower system collecting rain that will gravity-feed the water supply. Chemistry students are working on a water purification system. Art students are working on the color schemes inside and out. Business students are keeping track of material costs and labor.
The automotive classroom creates a training environment that students would see at a dealership.
The automotive classroom equipment includes three hoists, a five-phase emissions diagnostic machine and a brake lathe which allows faculty to provide more hands-on instruction.
A special camera on wheels projects various car issues to a class.
SMC students built this 1960s replica of an AC Shelby Cobra. SMC School of Advanced Technology and the graphic arts students collaborated on this project. The Cobra is very fast (in case you were wondering).
SMC students in Integrated Fabrication built this customized 1996 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab show truck. The vehicle was built on a patriotic theme and includes a 4,000-watt stereo system. Graphic arts students designed the vinyl stripes. This vehicle is dedicated to victims of 9-11.
