Apply for Admissions

Thank you for choosing Southwestern Michigan College to begin or to continue your college education. SMC provides a quality learning experience at an affordable cost. Whether you are planning to transfer to a four-year college or university, preparing to enter the work force, or taking classes for personal enrichment, SMC is a smart choice.

Southwestern Michigan College is an equal opportunity, equal access college with an open-door admission policy. You are eligible for admission if:

  • You have a high school diploma, a high school certificate of completion, GED or have completed a certified home-school program.
  • You have the capacity and maturity to benefit from SMC programs and courses as demonstrated by the Ability to Benefit assessment scores.
  • You are still in high school and have the written permission of your high school principal or guidance counselor to attend classes at SMC. Students under age 16 must also have the written permission of a parent or legal guardian and the SMC Dean of Students and Academic Support.
  • You are a citizen of another country and you meet all U.S. laws and SMC requirements pertaining to college attendance by non-immigrants.

Applications should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the beginning of each semester to insure comprehensive testing and orientation. There is no fee for applying. If you are ready to apply, simply click the Application for Admissions link on the right. If you need more information click the links on the E-Z Strip navigation bar above.

Final admission decision rests with the College. Admission to SMC does not necessarily guarantee admission to a specific program of study. Students interested in nursing, allied health or apprenticeship programs in particular should consult with an advisor.

If you have any questions about your application, please contact Nance Myers, Admissions Supervisor at (269) 782-1308 or nmyers@swmich.edu.
