Student Life at SMC

Student Life

Between all those lectures and late-night study sessions, you need to be able to kick back and have fun. That’s why student life is such a vital part of the experience here at SMC.

The Student Activity Center (SAC) is the hub of student life. It houses a fitness center, café, student lounge, rock-climbing room, gaming room and more.

Student groups and organizations make it easy to meet people who share your interests in everything from signing and painting to activism and rock climbing.

For the athletes, intramural sports provide opportunities to exercise your competitive side. Extreme sports let you try something new such as rock climbing or snowboarding.

There’s always a fun event happening such as Campus Bash; Pool, Ping Pong, and Halo tournaments; the Home Run Derby; the Turkey Trot and the Snow Bowl—SMC’s version of the Super Bowl.

When you’re ready to get outside, our beautiful 240-acre campus is a great place to experience every season of Michigan. The Roadrunner Trails, which comprise 6-miles of wooded trails for hiking, running, biking, or cross-country skiing, are the perfect way to explore Michigan’s great outdoors.

And if you do want a break from campus, the Michiana area provides plenty of things to do. Off-campus day trips and spring break excursions to Florida and Nevada also let you get away and take a break from classes.

In addition, Southwestern Michigan College has a number of clubs for students to meet other students who have similar interests; write for the campus newspaper, The Southwester; or participate in any of the campus-wide events.
