Scholarships Can Help Make College More Affordable
At Southwestern Michigan College, scholarships can help reduce the cost of your education and make your goals more attainable. With more than 250 scholarship opportunities available, SMC offers support for students with a variety of academic interests, career goals, and backgrounds.
Some scholarships are awarded automatically based on eligibility, while others require a separate application. Explore the opportunities available and find scholarships that may be a good fit for you.
Before You Apply for Scholarships
Before applying for scholarships, make sure you've completed these steps:
Apply for Admissions
Many scholarship opportunities require students to be admitted to SMC before eligibility can be determined. Apply to SMC.
Submit Your Transcripts
Submit your official transcripts or GED verification from your high school and any colleges you have attended to SMC
Complete the FAFSA
Completing the FAFSA may help determine eligibility for need-based financial aid and some scholarship opportunities. Complete the FAFSA.
Obtain Your SMC Student ID Number
Some scholarship applications require your SMC student ID number. New student can obtain their ID number from the Admitted Student Portal.

Endowment Scholarships
With support from SMC donors, endowment scholarships provide additional opportunities for students based on criteria such as academic achievement, financial need, program of study, leadership, and community involvement.

Looking for scholarship opportunities beyond SMC? Students are encouraged to explore scholarship opportunities offered by employers, community organizations, foundations, and other external sources.

Academic Scholarships

Graduating high school seniors are automatically considered when they apply to SMC and submit their transcripts.
Indiana Scholarships

Graduating Indiana high school students may qualify for reduced tuition through the Indiana Scholarship.
Lifelong Learner Scholarship

Helps adult students returning to college reduce the cost of earning a degree or certificate.
